Synopsis
A Sicilian laborer named Mimi loses his livelihood after voting against the Mafia in what he believes is a secret ballot. He abandons his wife, flees to Turin, and begins a relationship with a Communist organizer, though he remains unable to escape the influence of the Mafia. The Mafia later lure him back to Sicily by offering a better job, requiring him to conceal both his lover and their child. At that point, his wife announces that she is pregnant.
