The Star of Andra and Tati
Synopsis
Andra and Tati Bucci, Italian Jewish sisters from Fiume, were six and four years old, respectively, when they were deported to Auschwitz on March 29, 1944, along with their mother, grandmother, aunt, and four-year-old cousin Sergio. They survived the initial selections at the concentration camp after Dr. Mengele mistakenly identified them as twins and sent them to the Kinderblock, the barracks where children were kept for eugenics experiments. Their survival until the camp's liberation on January 27, 1945, was made possible by the bond they shared and the kindness of a female camp guard.
