Synopsis
This image shows the eruption of the volcano that resulted in the deaths of over 30,000 people. The multiple explosions occurring during the eruption are clearly visible. Thousands of tons of molten lava, sand, rocks, and steam are seen being thrown high into the air before crashing down on the residents of the doomed city of St. Pierre. This event is considered one of the worst calamities since the similar eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed Pompeii. (Lubin Catalog)
