The Treasure

This fairy tale, filled with humor and suspense, begins in a small town where preparations are underway for a theatrical performance. The play recounts a local legend about vast riches hidden deep underground. Many desire to find them, but those who embark on the search never return. The play centers on two sisters, Kačenka and Barborka, as well as Jakub, a musician and Barborka's jealous boyfriend. The story also draws the attention of Bořivoj Hájek z Hájku, a miserly lord of the castle, who arrives with his brother Ignác, an eccentric inventor and researcher. Meanwhile, underground near the real treasure, the three ghostly guards of the Lord of the Underground pass the time by inventing various pastimes, which the Lord himself finds highly annoying. His patience will be tested when the bored guards begin interfering with human affairs due to a bet on how the relationship between Jakub and Barborka will unfold.
