The True Story of Blackhawk Down

On October 3, 1993, 120 Delta Force commandos and Army Rangers were deployed into Mogadishu, Somalia, for a daylight raid aimed at capturing leading terrorist Mohammed Farrah Aidid, who was responsible for the deaths of U.N. workers providing food aid to starving Somalis. Aidid sought to gain control of the country by controlling food distribution. The mission quickly shifted to a rescue operation when U.S. forces came under heavy fire from Somali militia, becoming trapped in a prolonged and intense firefight. The engagement resulted in 18 American fatalities, 70 wounded, and an estimated 3,000 Somali casualties. This documentary presents the true story of "Black Hawk Down" through the recollections of American special forces survivors, as well as accounts from Somali militiamen describing their own experiences of the battle.
