Synopsis

Pablo Escobar, born December 19, 1949, in Rionegro, Antioquia, Colombia, rose to prominence as the leader of the Medellín drug cartel, one of the most powerful and violent drug trafficking organizations in the 1980s and early 1990s. Through his control of the cocaine trade, Escobar became one of the richest men in the world, amassing an estimated fortune of over $30 billion at the height of his power. His criminal empire was responsible for thousands of deaths, including assassinations of political figures, law enforcement officers, and rival gang members. Escobar's influence extended into Colombian politics, where he funded political campaigns and attempted to manipulate government officials to avoid prosecution. After a period in hiding following the collapse of the Medellín cartel and increased government pressure, Escobar was captured in 1991 and held in a maximum-security prison. He escaped in 1992 but was recaptured in 1993. On December 2, 1993, he was killed in a police operation in Medellín, ending his reign as one of the most infamous drug lords in history.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 13

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
