The Unbearable Lightness of the Revolution

Set in East Germany in 1988, the story follows 19-year-old Franka, who is more interested in going to the disco and dreaming of seeing Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson in concert than in politics. Despite her carefree demeanor, she is deeply affected by the loss of her baby brother. When she meets Stefan, a young and idealistic member of an environmental activist group, Franka is drawn to him and his cause, which warmly welcomes her. However, their activism attracts attention: Franka's mother, a member of the Party, becomes concerned about her daughter's new associations. As Stefan's group loses the support of the church and faces increasing pressure from the state, Stefan and Franka find themselves targeted by the government.
