The Vow
Synopsis
In 1818 in the Münsterland region, numerous pilgrims seeking solace and comfort visit the bedside of Anna Katharina von Emmerich, a nun whose body displays marks resembling the holy wounds of Christ on her chest, forehead, and hands. Clemens von Brentano, a prominent artist of the time, visits the nun's sickbed as a "writer of the wonders of God," tasked with recording her visions and beliefs. He views himself as in control of his life as a devout Catholic. However, the encounter with the charismatic nun proves to be a turning point—for both of them.
