Synopsis
Set in Paris in the early 1960s, the story follows Jean-Louis Joubert, a serious and uptight stockbroker married to Suzanne, a rigidly class-conscious woman. They have two teenage sons, who are currently attending a boarding school. Jean-Louis leads a comfortable but dull life, until a chance event introduces him to Maria, a charming new maid working for his family. Through her, he discovers the sixth-floor servants' quarters in the luxury building he owns. There, a lively group of Spanish maids offers him a new perspective on life. Particularly through his growing relationship with Maria, Jean-Louis begins to change, gradually becoming a different—and, in many ways, better—man.
