The World of Arata

Four high school girls in uniforms walk silently across the barren earth. They are time travelers who have been sent 6000 years into the future from their present, a time in which the same day is endlessly repeated, in an attempt to escape human extinction. They had studied time travel in school, passed an aptitude test, and were selected for the mission as described. Now, they are uncertain of what to do. The only item they were allowed to bring from the present is a small, toy-like cellphone, which, of course, receives no signal in this time. As they walk, they observe strange birds flying in the sky and a discolored river in the distance. One of the girls then discovers an abandoned house and recognizes the name inscribed on the front gates. * A mixed-media project by Iruma Hitoma, who wrote the novel, created the story for the manga version, scripted the anime, and composed the lyrics for the music.
