The Yearling

The Baxter family has endured numerous hardships, including bears, floods, rattlesnakes, hunger, disease, and difficult neighbors, yet they have persisted through the most challenging pioneer years. Their son, Jody, now faces his own trials. Jody is growing up on his parents' modest farm, where he has worked hard since the loss of three of his siblings to illness. After his only close friend passes away, Jody feels lonely and desires a companion. He finds one in "Flag," an orphaned fawn he adopts. Jody and Flag form a close bond, spending time together playing and exploring. However, this happiness is short-lived, as Flag matures into a powerful yearling that threatens the family's well-being, forcing Jody to make a difficult decision.
