Synopsis

Griffin Byrne is an idealistic new teacher of history, English, and mathematics at Father Frank Larkin's school, located in a predominantly Latino neighborhood marked by high rates of crime and poverty, where many students, including some graduates, end up in difficult circumstances. He becomes especially interested in Lee Cortes, a boy who is largely overlooked by others but demonstrates exceptional talent in cartoon drawing. Lee is quiet at school, often wears a Walkman, and remains emotionally withdrawn due to his challenging home life. His older brother, Tyro, a drug dealer, abuses both Lee and their mother, leaving Lee frequently responsible for caring for his younger siblings. Despite widespread cynicism, Griffin goes to great lengths to support Lee, even inviting him to stay in his bachelor apartment. However, he realizes that the family's deep-rooted issues are beyond his ability to resolve, and his efforts often lead to more harm than good, despite his tireless attempts to make a difference.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 18

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
