Thursday's Children
Synopsis
Won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short in 1954. The film focuses on children at The Royal School for the Deaf in Margate, Kent, depicting their efforts to learn language through exercises, games, lip-reading, and speech practice. Richard Burton provides the narration, which is calm and occasionally poetic, enhancing the film's uplifting portrayal of the children's determination. The film was preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with the British Film Institute in 2005.
