Toyland

On a cold winter morning, a mother goes to wake her son, Heinrich, only to find his bed empty. She leaves their apartment in search of him. She discovers a neighbor's door, marked with a Star of David, slightly open, with the interior in disarray and the family missing. She questions passersby, then hurries to the police station and later to the rail yard. Flashbacks reveal that Heinrich and the neighbor's son, Paul, are six years old and close friends. Paul's family is about to be deported, and Heinrich's mother has told him they are going to Toyland. Believing the story, Heinrich wants to join them and has packed a bag, waiting for their departure. His mother realizes he has gone with them and grows more determined to reach him in time.
