Synopsis

Emily is feeling the absence of her daughter Heather, who is attending college in Boston. Since the death of Heather's father, she has become sensitive to her mother's reliance on long-standing holiday traditions. This Christmas, Heather has arranged a trip to Phoenix with her boyfriend but tells Emily she will be staying on campus to study. Emily, hoping to surprise Heather, arranges a house-swap with Charles, an English professor from Boston seeking the solitude of Washington State to complete his novel, and flies to Boston. Unaware of the swap, Emily's best friend Faith encounters Charles at Emily’s house, while in Boston, Ray, Charles’ brother, responds to a 911 call and instead finds Emily at Charles’ condo. As Christmas travel mishaps unfold, will they lead to unexpected cross-country romances, or has the string of surprises gone on too long?
