Synopsis

In 1940s Los Angeles private investigator Roland Drake solves cases and becomes involved with femme fatales while corrupt police officer Det. Barry Tate dominates the city. The story is presented in a classic film‑noir style. Drake has fallen on hard times: he has been evicted from his office, disgraced by a missing‑persons case, and ruined in the public eye and with the police, leaving him seemingly finished. Redemption arrives in the form of Katherine Montemar, a dark‑haired woman who seeks his assistance. Their immediate chemistry leads Drake to take on her request concerning the disappearance of her family members, which also becomes a romantic involvement.
