In 1953, Algeria was a French colony. Frantz Fanon, a young Black psychiatrist, was appointed head doctor at Blida-Joinville Hospital. There, he applied his theories of "Institutional Psychotherapy," challenging the racist doctrines of the Algies School of Psychiatry, even as conflict erupted within the hospital itself.
