Tyll the Giant
Synopsis
Based on an Estonian folk tale, the story centers on Tõll, a gigantic hero who lived on the island of Saaremaa (Oesel) in the Baltic Sea. Despite being the island's king, Tõll often worked as a common farmer, tending his crops and returning to his wife. He was a just ruler, known for being quick to anger but ultimately kind and helpful to others. Tõll's greatest adversary is the god of the underworld, a figure known for sly and cowardly mischief. When war breaks out on the island, Tõll leaves to aid his struggling army, only for the devil to seize the opportunity and cause destruction in Tõll's absence.
