Synopsis
Malpe is a small fishing town located on the Arabian Coast, approximately 6 kilometers west of the temple town of Udupi. The beaches of Malpe are naturally cleansed each day by the sea, with waves ensuring that the sands remain free of debris. However, there are some places where the waves cannot reach. It is the time of year when Udupi and its surrounding areas are adorned for the celebration of Sri Krishna Janmaashtami. Men and children dress as characters from mythology, and teams painted as tigers can be seen dancing to drumbeats throughout the town. Yet, in Malpe, signs of violence begin to emerge during this festive season.
