Synopsis
Between 1949 and 1975, more than 800,000 German orphans spent their post-war years in church-run institutions, where they experienced widespread abuse. Although the situation was widely known, it remained largely unspoken. In 2012, the church acknowledged its wrongdoings. The film follows a German woman (played by Senta Berger) living in New York as she returns to Germany to testify before an inquiry commission. During her stay, she recalls the traumatic experiences from her childhood.
