Synopsis
United Airlines Flight 93 was one of four commercial flights hijacked by al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001. The flight, en route from Newark Liberty International Airport to San Francisco International Airport, was taken over by a group of hijackers shortly after takeoff. As the hijackers attempted to steer the plane toward an unknown target, passengers and crew learned of the attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. through phone calls and radio transmissions. In response, passengers on board attempted to retake control of the aircraft, leading to a violent confrontation in the cockpit. The plane ultimately crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, killing all 44 people on board. It is widely believed that the passengers' actions prevented the hijackers from reaching their intended target.
