Synopsis

Guner Sernikli is a government official who, along with his wife and their wheelchair-bound daughter, has been appointed as the head librarian of an isolated province, effectively serving as an exile due to the absence of a library in the village. The family is warmly received, but the period is marked by political instability and clashes between leftist and rightist factions in urban areas, with the village youth inevitably influenced by these tensions. They arrive in Vizontele just as the situation becomes increasingly chaotic. Guner brings wisdom, while his daughter Tuba brings beauty, innocence, and love. Some villagers, such as the mayor, Nazmi Dogan, and the eccentric Emin, appreciate these qualities, but they remain a minority as confusion continues to dominate. The story is based on the childhood memories of writer-director Yılmaz Erdoğan of his last summer in Hakkâri, Turkey, in 1980.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 16

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
