Synopsis

The film begins by focusing on the Greek resistance to fascism and the subsequent civil war for independence. As a voice-over provides historical facts and names, photographs transport viewers into the past, depicting the everyday lives of the people. The second part shifts to Greece in 1965, where the public is protesting the removal of liberal Prime Minister Georgios Papandreou. Two years later, a military junta took control of the country. When the German film journal Filmecho/Filmwoche labeled the film “communist,” it effectively marked it for obscurity. The film was rarely screened, and this controversy led to a stigma that ultimately prevented Peter Nestler from continuing his work in Germany.

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 3

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
