Wedding in Rome

While on a business trip in Milan, Bavarian architect Max Hauser falls for the strong-willed waitress Bianca, who is dismissed for standing up to his rude colleagues. When he proposes, she flees, but he tracks her down to Rome, where he discovers she is the multi-titled, rebellious daughter of the impoverished prince and count Vibaldo D'Arcadia and his snobbish, privileged wife Gioia, who live in a magnificent yet gradually decaying Renaissance palace. When Max formally asks for her hand, she quickly agrees, and after receiving the approval of her matriarchal mother, Donna Costanza, Max invites his parents—egalitarian dentist Walter Hauser and wine merchant Eva Zahnarzt—to attend his socialite wedding.
