Whisky Galore!
Synopsis
Based on a true story, the real ship that sank on February 5, 1941, during World War II, was the S/S Politician. Having departed from Liverpool two days earlier and bound for Jamaica, the ship sank off the coast of Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland, in severe weather. It was carrying 250,000 bottles of whisky. Local residents collected as many bottles as they could before official authorities arrived, and to this day, bottles continue to be discovered on the beach or in the sea roughly every other year.
