Worldly Desires

Drama

Synopsis

*Worldly Desires* is one of three films commissioned by the Jeonju International Film Festival in 2005. It follows a couple who escape their family to search for a spiritual tree in the jungle. The film features a song at night that reflects an innocent idea of love and a quest for happiness. As an experimental project, Apichatpong Weerasethakul invited filmmaker friend Pimpaka Towira to shoot the love story by day and the song by night. The story, *Deep Red Bloody Night*, was written by his assistant and reimagines a forbidden love story set in a more romantic past. A pop song, *Will I Be Lucky?*, was chosen to express a sense of guiltless freedom felt when struck by love. The video serves as a small simulation of manners, dedicated to the memories of filmmaking in the jungle during 2001–2005. -Apichatpong Weerasethakul

How many hands made this film

The scale of the collaboration

Principal cast & crew: 5

These are the principals we have on file — the full crew ran to the hundreds. Every film this size was made by far more hands than any credits list ever names.

Why a floor?

This is a minimum, not a total. We only count the credits we’ve captured so far, and coverage is uneven — a blockbuster might show a few hundred names while another of the same size shows a couple dozen. The real crews all ran into the thousands. The number here only grows as full credits are enriched — so we frame it as a floor, never a headcount.
