Worried About the Boy

In 1980, young George O'Dowd surprises his parents with his interest in wearing frocks and using make-up, and moves into a squat with a like-minded friend named Peter, who dresses as Marilyn Monroe and goes by that name. They become regulars at Steve Strange's popular Blitz Club, where George works in the cloakroom. George struggles with his relationships with men until he meets aspiring musician Kirk. Through Kirk, George is introduced to the attractive drummer Jon Moss, who becomes the object of his affection. After being fired from the Blitz and rejected by Kirk, George seeks out Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren to advance his music career. His time with McLaren's band Bow Wow Wow is brief, but fan Mikey North is impressed and invites George to sing in a new group he is forming, where George reunites with Jon. The two begin a romantic relationship, and the group eventually becomes the highly successful Culture Club. Four years later, troubled by tabloid press coverage and rumors of his drug use, a distressed George turns to Jon for guidance about his future.
