Xx: Where Your Heart Should Be

Todd Verow's experimental narrative feature explores the end times through a fragmented structure of 20 short films. The story follows various characters as they grapple with fear and longing while anticipating an unspecified apocalyptic event. Some attempt to escape physically, emotionally, or sexually, while others embrace the end with open arms. A woman named Philly is seen dragging her own corpse, searching for a final resting place, when she encounters her former lover, Michael Burke, who was once a woman but has since transitioned to a man. He seeks to leave town, while she wishes to stay, as she reasons it is the end of time and nothing is a crime. Several gay men engage in increasingly extreme sexual behavior, determined to experience everything before the collapse. Two gay ex-lovers attempt to reconnect and find some sense of connection beyond emptiness. Meanwhile, porn actors and producers create more dangerous and violent films as their fantasies grow darker. The film questions whether the world will end with a whimper, a bang, or not at all.
