Synopsis
YS Rajasekhara Reddy, commonly known as Y. S. R., was the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2004 until his death in 2009. Born on July 11, 1949, in Kadapa, he was a prominent leader of the Indian National Congress and a member of the Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy family, a well-known political dynasty in the state. He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly multiple times, representing Kadapa and later Kadapa (Rural). As Chief Minister, he was known for his focus on rural development, irrigation projects, and poverty alleviation. On September 2, 2009, he died in a helicopter crash near Nallamala Hills, an event that led to widespread mourning across the state. His tenure and policies left a lasting impact on Andhra Pradesh's political and developmental landscape.
