Biography

Ayyappan Pillai, known by his pen name Abhayadev, was an Indian poet and lyricist who contributed extensively to Malayalam cinema during the 1970s. He wrote lyrics for approximately 500 films and dialogues for 25 Malayalam movies. Abhayadev made his debut as a lyricist in 1949 with the film *Vellinakshatram*. He was actively involved in cultural and social organizations such as the Sahitya Pravarthaka Cooperative Society and the Hindi Prachar Sabha. In recognition of his contributions, he received the J. C. Daniel Award in 1995. His grandsons, Ambilikuttan and Jayadevan, are also prominent in the arts, with Ambilikuttan as a playback singer and Jayadevan as a violinist based in Canada.
