Biography

Mohammad Abu Taher was a Bangladeshi military officer who initially served in the Pakistan Army before defecting to the Bangladesh Army during the Bangladesh Liberation War. He crossed into India and was screened by Indian authorities before being assigned to Sector 11 of the Mukti Bahini under Major Ziaur Rahman. After taking command of the sector, he served in the Bangladesh Defence Forces for two months until November 1971. For his bravery, he was awarded the Bir Uttom Medal. Later, he was medically discharged by an Indian military board in Pune after losing a leg. Following Bangladesh's independence, he was inducted into the Bangladesh Army with the rank of lieutenant colonel for administrative retirement.
