Biography

Adam Arkin (born August 19, 1956) is an American actor and director. He is the son of Oscar-winning actor Alan Arkin and the brother of actor Matthew Arkin. Arkin is known for his role as Aaron Shutt on *Chicago Hope*. He has received numerous award nominations, including a Tony Award for Best Actor in 1991 for *I Hate Hamlet*, three Primetime Emmy Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for *Chicago Hope*, and a Directors Guild of America Award for *My Louisiana Sky*. From 1990 onward, he played a recurring guest role on *Northern Exposure* as the angry, paranoid character Adam, for which he was also Emmy-nominated. In 2002, Arkin won a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Directing in a Children's Special for *My Louisiana Sky*. Between 2007 and 2009, he co-starred in the drama series *Life*. In 2009, he portrayed the villain Ethan Zobelle, a white separatist gang leader, in *Sons of Anarchy*, and also played Principal Ed Gibb in *8 Simple Rules* from 2003 to 2005.
