Biography

Sir Alec Guinness was an English actor known for his accomplished career in film and theatre. He appeared in nine films included in the BFI's 100 most important British films of the 20th century, with six in leading roles and three in supporting roles. His filmography includes works directed by David Lean and produced by Ealing Studios. Guinness received several awards, including an Academy Award, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe, a Tony Award, and a Volpi Cup. In 1959, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the arts. He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960, an Academy Honorary Award in 1980, and the BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award in 1989.
