Biography

Alicia Augello Cook, known professionally as Alicia Keys, is an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She received classical training from an early age and began writing songs at 12. At 15, she signed with Columbia Records, but after label disputes, she moved to J Records. There, she released her critically acclaimed and commercially successful debut album, *Songs in A Minor* (2001). The album sold over 12 million copies worldwide and won five Grammy Awards, including for the number-one hit "Fallin'." Her second album, *The Diary of Alicia Keys* (2003), continued her success, selling eight million copies and earning four more Grammy Awards. It featured top-five hits "You Don't Know My Name" and "If I Ain't Got You."
