Biography

Amena Begum was a notable Bangladeshi politician and former member of parliament from East Pakistan. She was actively involved in promoting regional autonomy through the Six Point program, a political platform developed by the Awami League. On 7 June 1966, she coordinated a general strike in collaboration with Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, an event that saw widespread participation across East Pakistan and represented a major milestone in the movement toward Bangladesh's eventual independence. In the later stages of her political career, she served as president of the Jatiya League. Amena Begum died in Dhaka on 7 April 1989.
