Anne Archer

Anne Archer received nominations for an Academy Award®, a Golden Globe and the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for her portrayal of Beth Gallagher, Michael Douglas’s troubled wife, in Adrian Lyne’s 1987 thriller *Fatal Attraction*. She also earned a Golden Globe for her role in the ensemble cast of Robert Altman’s *Short Cuts* (1993) and appeared as Cathy, the wife of CIA agent Jack Ryan, in *Patriot Games* (1992) and *Clear and Present Danger* (1994), both adaptations of Tom Clancy novels. Archer was born in Los Angeles, California, to actors Marjorie Lord (née Marjorie F. Wollenberg), known for *The Danny Thomas Show* (1953), and John Archer (born Ralph Bowman), who appeared in *White Heat* (1949); her ancestry includes German, English, Czech and Scots‑Irish heritage. She studied theatre arts at Claremont College before making her film debut opposite Jon Voight in *The All‑American Boy* (1973) and gained critical notice for the lead role in *Lifeguard* (1976) as Sam Elliott’s former lover. Throughout her career she acted alongside Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Gene Hackman (*Narrow Margin*, 1990), Tom Berenger (*Love at Large*, 1990), Donald Sutherland (*Eminent Domain*, 1990) and Sylvester Stallone (*Paradise Alley*, 1978). In 2000 she appeared in *The Art of War* with Wesley Snipes and in *Rules of Engagement* opposite Tommy Lee Jones, a spring box‑office success. With her husband, Emmy‑winning sports producer Terry Jastrow, she co‑produced and starred in the feature film *Waltz Across Texas* (1982) and later co‑produced and co‑hosted ABC’s two‑hour special *World Fashion Premiere from Paris* (1998), returning as a producer for the 1999 follow‑up. She has performed dramatic roles in cable movies, including starring with Michael Murphy in *Indiscretion of an American Wife* (1998) for Lifetime, opposite William Petersen in *Present Tense, Past Perfect* (1996), as Dennis Hopper’s former wife in *Nails* (1992), and with Jon Voight in HBO’s *The Last of His Tribe* (1992). Television credits include Neil Simon’s *Jake’s Women* (1996) opposite Alan Alda, CBS’s *Jane’s House* (1994) with James Woods, a three‑episode arc on Fox’s *Boston Public* (2000), and a starring role opposite Courteney Cox in the independent film *November* (2004). She appeared as Professor Molly McCarthy in Revolution Studios’ comedy *Man of the House* (2005) alongside Tommy Lee Jones, and had a part in Showtime’s series *The L Word* (2004). Her stage work includes the world premiere of “The Poison Tree” at Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum, a production of “Les Liaisons Dangereuses” at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, starring in the London West End run of “The Graduate”, and her New York debut as Maude Mix in the Off‑Broadway production of John Ford Noonan’s *A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking*.
