Biography

Avery Franklin Brooks is an American actor, director, singer, narrator, and educator known for his diverse body of work. He is best recognized for his role as Captain Benjamin Sisko on *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine*, as well as his portrayal of Hawk on *Spenser: For Hire* and its spinoff *A Man Called Hawk*. Brooks also received critical acclaim for his role as Dr. Bob Sweeney in the Academy Award–nominated film *American History X*. In addition to his television and film roles, Brooks has been honored for his contributions to theater, including induction into the College of Fellows of the American Theatre and receiving the William Shakespeare Award for Classical Theatre. He has been nominated for a Saturn Award and three NAACP Image Awards.
