Biography

American soprano; born in Newark, Ohio, on May 7, 1946. She studied at Ohio State University, earning a B.Mus. in 1969, and at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she received an M.A. in 1971. She made her operatic debut in 1973 as Susanna in *Le nozze di Figaro* with the West Palm Beach (Fla.) Opera. She was a member of the Innsbruck Landestheater from 1974 to 1976, the Kassel Staatstheater from 1976 to 1978, and the Cologne Opera from 1978 to 1982. In 1978, she appeared as Rosalinde at London’s Covent Garden, and on September 30, 1983, she made her Metropolitan Opera debut in New York as Musetta. She also made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Paris Opera, and the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. Among her other roles are Violetta, Alice Ford, Massenet’s Manon, and Micaela.
