Biography

Benjamin Sharpsteen was an American film director and producer who worked for Disney. He was born on 4 November 1895 in Tacoma, Washington. After graduating from an agricultural college, he left farming to join the Marines during World War II. He began his animation career with the International Film Company in New York before moving to Walt Disney. Between 1920 and 1980, Sharpsteen directed 31 films. He also established a museum that documents the history of California’s first millionaire, Sam Brannan, and the history of the Upper Napa Valley. Sharpsteen died in Napa County, California on 20 December 1980.
