Biography

Bill Treacher (born 4 June 1930, died 5 November 2022) was an English actor best known for his role as Arthur Fowler in the BBC soap opera *EastEnders*, a position he held from 1985 to 1996. He was the first actor to be cast for the show.

Treacher was raised in the East End of London. Following his national service in the Royal Air Force, he worked as a steward with P&O, using the job to save money that enabled him to attend drama school.
