Biography

Marion Robert Morrison, known professionally as John Wayne, was an American actor who became a prominent figure in Hollywood's Golden Age through his roles in Western and war films. He was nicknamed "Duke" and had a long and successful career that spanned from the silent film era of the 1920s to the 1970s. Wayne appeared in 179 film and television productions, consistently ranking among the top box-office attractions for three decades. He frequently starred alongside other major Hollywood figures of his time. In 1999, the American Film Institute honored him as one of the greatest male stars in classic American cinema.
