Biography

Burr DeBenning (September 21, 1936 – May 26, 2003) was an American character actor who worked extensively in film and television. Over the course of his career, DeBenning appeared in nearly 100 films and TV shows. His film credits included the television films *The House on Greenapple Road*, *Wolfen*, *The Incredible Melting Man*, *A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child*, *St. Ives*, *Cruising*, and *Love Field*. He also appeared in the films *Custer* and *City Beneath the Sea* (1971), in which he co-starred with Robert Wagner and played a character named "Aquila" with gills. His television work included guest roles on *Matlock*, *Matt Houston*, *Mike Hammer*, *Magnum, P.I.*, *Matt Helm*, *Medical Center*, *McCloud*, *Columbo*, and *Medical Story*. He also appeared in the war film *Beach Red* (1967). DeBenning's final media appearance was a cameo in the music video for The Avalanches' hit song "Frontier Psychiatrist" in 2000. He died in California at the age of 66, the cause of death remaining undisclosed.
