Biography

Cameron Bruce Crowe, born in Palm Springs, California, is the son of Alice Marie Crowe (née George), a teacher and activist, and James A. Crowe, who owned a real‑estate and telephone business. He began writing at age fifteen while still in high school, submitting music articles to Rolling Stone magazine; a few years later he wrote his first screenplay, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982). The film is notable for featuring his future wife, Nancy Wilson, in a small role. Music continued to play a significant part in his work, with the rock band Pearl Jam appearing briefly in Singles (1992) before achieving wider recognition. His subsequent film, Jerry Maguire (1996), originated from a chance photograph of a football player and his agent, required more than five years of development, about twenty drafts, and periods of near‑terminal discouragement before completion, and its soundtrack was composed by his wife.
