David Cross is an American stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and television producer known for his distinctive comedic style and contributions to alternative comedy. He gained prominence for his work on the HBO sketch comedy series *Mr. Show with Bob and David* (1995–1998), which showcased his improvisational skills and absurdist humor. Cross is also recognized for his role as Tobias Fünke in the sitcom *Arrested Development*, which aired on Fox and later on Netflix, and for voicing Ian Hawke in the first three *Alvin and the Chipmunks* films. He has been described as a defining figure in cult Gen X comedy, with a career spanning stand-up performances, television, and film.
