David Diamond

Composer and educator, he received his education at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Eastman School of Music, and the New Music School. His teachers included Roger Sessions and Nadia Boulanger. He was the recipient of the Elfrida Whiteman, Guggenheim, and National Academy of Arts and Letters grants, as well as the Prix de Rome, Paderewski, and Ernest Bloch awards. He joined ASCAP in 1946 and went to Europe in 1951 as a Fulbright professor; that same year, he also held the Slee professorship at the University of Boston. In 1965, he joined the faculty at the Manhattan School of Music and was a member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. Among his vocal compositions are "David Mourns for Absalom," "Lift Not the Painted Veil," and "Love Is More."
