Biography
Deepa Mehta is an Indian-born Canadian film director and screenwriter known for her Elements trilogy. The trilogy comprises *Fire* (1996), *Earth* (1998), and *Water* (2005). These films examine themes of gender, identity, and social change in South Asian societies. *Water*, the concluding film, received critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards. Mehta's work is recognized for its bold storytelling and cultural insight.
