Biography
Desmond Meade is a voting rights activist and Executive Director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition. He led the successful campaign to pass Florida Amendment 4 in 2018, which restored voting rights to over 1.4 million Floridians with prior felony convictions. As chair of Floridians for a Fair Democracy, Meade played a central role in this initiative, which marked a major shift in criminal justice and voting rights policy in the state.
In April 2019, Time magazine recognized Meade as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. He authored the autobiography *Let My People Vote: My Battle to Restore the Civil Rights of Returning Citizens*, published in 2020. In 2021, Meade was awarded a MacArthur "Genius Grant" in recognition of his work in criminal justice reform and civil rights advocacy.
