Biography

Diablo Cody, also known as Brook Busey, was raised in Lemont, Illinois. After a series of unsatisfying agency positions, she relocated to Minneapolis, where she began writing and served as Arts Editor for the local independent weekly while maintaining a popular blog about a brief period working as a stripper. The blog drew the attention of her manager Mason Novick, who urged her to write a book based on that experience; the resulting work, Candy Girl, was published in 2006. Novick also suggested she try screenwriting, and her first script, Juno, was acquired by Fox Searchlight, becoming an immediate hit and earning her the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2008. Since then she has written and produced several films—including Jennifer’s Body, Young Adult, Tully, and Lisa Frankenstein—and the television series United States of Tara. She also authored the book for the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill, which is based on Alanis Morissette’s music. Cody resides in Los Angeles.
