Biography

Djimon Hounsou is an actor known for his role in *Blood Diamond*. He was born in Cotonou, Benin, in West Africa, to Albertine and Pierre Hounsou, who was a cook. At the age of 13, he moved to Lyon, France. Before pursuing acting, Hounsou worked as a male model, walking the catwalks of Paris and London. He later transitioned away from modeling and appeared in films such as *Gladiator* (2000), directed by Ridley Scott, and *Amistad* (1997), directed by Steven Spielberg.
