Biography

Donald Richie was an American author, journalist, and film critic known for his writings on Japanese culture and cinema. While he considered himself primarily a film historian, Richie also directed several experimental films, starting at the age of 17. His work offered in-depth perspectives on the Japanese people and their cultural traditions, especially through the medium of film. In recognition of his contributions, Richie received Japan's Order of the Rising Sun in 2005.
